Is it good to use top agitator or bottom agitator for 1500L Mixing tank?

Tiantai Brewtech Company manufactures many kinds of mixing tanks or blending tank, primarily including fermentation tanks, bright beer tanks, and blending and storage tanks for beverages such as beer, spirit, fruit juice, wine, and red wine, as well as bread. These tanks are widely used in various stages of beer brewing and beverage production.

Customers now is asking a 1,500L mixing tank. And asking if topo monted or bottom mounted agitator is better.

For a 1500L Mixing tank or fermentation tank, deciding between a top-mounted or bottom-mounted agitator depends on your specific goals (e.g. mixing strength, cleaning ease, cost, and maintenance). Here’s a comparison based on your tank dimensions (Ø1400mm x H2400mm) and the general needs of dough/bread fermentation:

Top-Mounted Agitator:

Pros:

Easier maintenance: Motor and gearbox are more accessible.

Less risk of contamination: No penetration at the bottom = easier to fully drain and clean.

Better for viscous products: With a properly sized shaft and impeller, can handle dough or thick batter.

Standard for many food-grade fermenters.

Cons:

Long shaft required: Your tank is tall (2400mm), so shaft may need stabilization with a bottom bearing/seal, increasing complexity.

Higher torque needed: To mix dense bread dough or slurries effectively.

Bottom-Mounted Agitator:

Pros:

More efficient mixing: Especially for high-viscosity dough, as agitation starts at the thickest part.

Shorter shaft: Less risk of shaft deflection or vibration.

Cons:

Contamination risk:The seals may need to change after sometime using to avoid leaking.

Recommendation (for 1500L bread fermentation):

For bread dough or high-viscosity fermentations, a top-mounted agitator with a properly designed anchor, paddle, or helical ribbon impeller is typically better.
