plate heat exchanger

The plate heat exchanger is a key component for wort cooling in a turnkey beer brewing system. Grainbrew offers it with best quality to ensure a high cooling efficiency. Besides of the quality itself, there are still some following tips to be noted when using a plate heat exchanger for wort cooling:\

1. Before the wort is cooled, it is necessary to sterilize the wort side of the plate heat exchanger and the wort pipeline with hot water of 80 ° C or higher for a period of not less than 30 min. After the cooling starts, the wort is allowed to enter the fermenter after the wort has drained the remaining water from the equipment.
2. During the cooling process, the brewer should always check the inlet and outlet temperatures of wort and cooling water or refrigerant, and adjust the flow rate through the valve in time to control the wort outlet temperature within ±0.5 °C specified by the process, and there should be no large fluctuations. . At the end of the wort cooling, hot water is used to drain the wort from the equipment and piping.
3. The wort cooling time is preferably controlled within 60 min. The excessive cooling time will affect the utilization of the whirlpool tank and the quality of the wort.
4. It is necessary to regularly remove and wash the plates of the heat exchanger, because the cold break and hop resin in the wort will stick to the plate, which will affect the heat transfer effect. After the plate is removed, firstly soak it in 1%-2% hot alkaline water, then use a brush to clean the dirt and then wash it with clean water.
5. The maximum working pressure of the plate heat exchanger is generally 1 MPa, and a pressure difference will occur on the cooling water side and the wort side of the heat exchanger. The normal working pressure is generally 0.2-0.4 MPa. Excessive pressure difference will deform the plate and reduce the sealing performance of the gasket, so care should be taken to control the pressure difference.
