How to use the Candle DE Filter in a brewery?

Candle-style diatomaceous earth filter is a commonly used beer filtration equipment in a brewery. It uses a candle core as the filtering material and is pre-coated with diatomaceous earth on the candle core when in use. The candle core is also wrapped with concentric helical threads with a gap of 50-80μm. The elongated filter candles are over 2 meters in length. Because there are nearly 700 filter candles installed in the filter, it creates a very large filtration surface area, ensuring high filtration efficiency, and there are no moving parts on the candle core.

First, fill the filter with water. Since the water will come into contact with the craft beer, deoxygenated water should be used to maintain a circulating state of water.

Next is the pre-coating process:

The first pre-coating involves mixing the filter medium (diatomaceous earth) with water and applying it to the candle core for approximately 10 minutes to create a supporting layer.
The effluent during the first pre-coating will be cloudy, followed by a second pre-coating using the same method. After each pre-coating, the entire filtration beer equipment should circulate for 10 to 15 minutes.

Then, the filtration process begins. Initially, water is displaced by beer, and the filtered beer is slowly pushed upward from the bottom through the candle core, with diatomaceous earth slurry being quantitatively added to the beer through a metering pump.
